Reviews
Thought it was interesting that most of the drinks were on tap but they’re still solid options. Food is Asian fusion and is well executed - really enjoyed the Korean fried cauliflower.
Wrapping up my final night in London at Tayēr + Elementary, ranked #8 among the world's best bars. Admittedly, our expectations were high given the ranking and the positive reviews. However, we discovered that they serve pre-made cocktails, aligning with the current trend for scalability. Yet, there's an undeniable charm to freshly crafted drinks by skilled bartenders that seems to be missing here.
Later, we found out that the part we visited is called "Elementary," while "Tayēr" is another bar at the back, open from Thu-Sun only, with a completely different menu. Hoping that one lives up to the ranking! 🍸
Do you like cocktails?
Come here then! It recently made the top 10 best cocktails bar in the world!
Loved it!
It's busy but the waiting time isn't too long and the service is fast.
The shot with the olive filled with blue cheese, it blew my mind! So tasty!
The mini croquettes with quail fried eggs was an excellent snack to go with the cocktail.
Highly recommended
This was the 2nd bar in the "Best Bars 2022" list. My expectations were pretty high. The concept of the place is absolute minimalism. All cocktails look very simple, monotone colors(some looks like a glass of water), glasses are simple, really elementary as the name suggests. Cocktails were tasty 100%, but not outstanding. I expected more really.
Also we got some snacks, they were tasty too.
Tayer + Elementary must be removed from the 50 Best Bar list. All the cocktails at Elementary are pre-made and kept in bottles within a fridge. Nobody actually makes you a drink. Literally. After two of their seasonal pre-made drinks, I asked for a basic classic cocktail and was told I couldn't order that or anything else off menu because all the drinks here are pre-made only. Have you ever been to a cocktail bar that told you they couldn't make you ANY cocktails!? It's almost comical.
You know what else is pre-made? McDonald's. If you can pour Coca Cola from a bottle into a glass, you're half qualified to tend bar here. You won't ever be making a drink, so why need other qualifications? What proof is there that the bartenders actually know how to make a drink? Obviously someone created the pre-made cocktails, but there's no telling who's talent that was. It also makes for a boring experience sitting at the bar. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying it's so much fun watching a mixologist work. Here I just watch someone open a fridge and pour a drink. There are no colorful displays of limes, lemons, oranges, and bitters.
I have so many more critiques but that's the gist. I've drank at many World's Best Bars winners, and half the 2023 current top 10. This was far and above the biggest disappointment. Two stars, because at least the pre-made drinks tasted good. Not great. Good. It's a bland experience, and one would think Alex Kratena and the 50 Best folks would understand that.
Not sure if #2 bar in the world needs a review but here you go:
The cocktail menu at Tayer + Elementary is a true work of art. Each drink is thoughtfully crafted with unique flavor combinations and top-notch ingredients. The bartenders demonstrate their mastery, creating concoctions that are both visually stunning and incredibly delicious. Whether you're a seasoned cocktail enthusiast or someone just beginning to explore mixology, the diverse range of libations caters to all tastes. 100% recommended to visit this place!
Drinks at elementary were good.
Drinks at Tayer were also v good.
Atmosphere is nice with upbeat music.
Every interaction I had with the staff was friendly and professional.
All questions about food and drink answered efficiently.
Would recommend.
Absolutely incredible experience.
First, the one sip martini, I love the concept. I love a blue cheese martini and to make a little joke about it was just great.
On to the spaces. Elementary is the front half, a very neighborhood bar feel. They did a great job of making it feel accessible and simple. The drinks were quick/pre batched. I really liked the bloody Mary option they had as one of the specials.
Also the 42 second oyster was FANTASTIC.
On to the Tayer spot (the back room) - just incredible. Very clinical and lablike. I love how they had their ice set up in the middle bar - it made the space feel even bigger and more open.
The way they describe flavor profiles instead of drink lists was also amazing.
This is a must visit for cocktail excellence in London and the world in general. Also, a huge shout out to Alex Kratena, it was a pleasure to meet him and he was so wonderful as a host and explaining the menu.
